History:

Construction of this tomb has an interesting history! Bibi ka Maqbara actually means Tomb of the Lady. Azam Shah wanted to build this tomb using marble stone. But Aurangzeb opposed him to do so because he did not want to build a monument as beautiful as Taj Mahal. So, Aurangzeb restricted the transport of marble stone from Rajasthan and other parts of the Mughal Empire. As a result, marble is used only in the dome and few parts of the main structure. Another portion of the tomb is plastered with Eastco (high-quality cement) plaster. The marble used have been brought from the mines of Jaipur.

Aurangzeb approved only Rs.7,00,000/- for the construction of the Bibi ka Maqbara Aurangabad. However, only Rs. 6,68,203.7/- were spent on its construction! The gate beautiful designs carved on a brass plate and having some inscriptions. According to these descriptions, this tomb was designed by an architect named- Ataullah and built by an engineer named- Hanspat Rai.
