This art gallery is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Mumbai because of its uniqueness and features. The gallery was built by Sir Cowasji Jehangir. The gallery was opened on 21st January 1952 dedicated to the memory of Sir Cowasji’s late son – Jehangir. It is located in Kala Ghoda area, on the same street of Prince of Wales Museum. Bombay Art Society manages this art gallery since a long time. In addition to lower exhibition halls, gallery Chemould on the upper floor displays some fine Indian contemporary arts . This area was clearly marked out as an Art District with the opening of the Art Plaza in the 1980’s and the National Gallery of Modern Art in the 1990’s in this area. The gallery as well as cafe Samovar restaurant have been featured in few films.
