Mahabaleshwar is one of the most famous hill stations in Maharashtra as well as in India. Altitude of this hill station is 1438 meters above MSL which keeps the weather pleasant all year round. It has beautiful surroundings, serene environment and pleasant climate almost all year round. There are various look-out points all over the hill station.

Along with the hill station, Mahabaleshwar temple is also one of the popular temples in Maharashtra. This hill station is situated close to the Panchgani Hill station. Both these places lie in the same mountain range. The distance between these hill stations is just 18 kms. Mahabaleshwar has very dense forest and it receives the second highest rainfall in India. Due to the heavy rainfall, the major part of Mahabaleshwar hill station remains closed during the monsoon season.

Attractions & Points To See

It is better to take the vehicle for visiting Mahabaleshwar points because points are 7-8 kms away from the main market. All points are situated in different directions and locations. Some of the British officers discovered most of these points. Wilson point, Arthur’s seat, Kate’s point, Lodwick Point, Elephant Point,  Krishna Valley are the various points to see across Mahabaleshwar hill station.

Wilson point is the highest point of all. There is a place called Kshetra Mahabaleshwar which is a source(originating point) of five rivers-The Koyna, Krishna, Gayatri, Savitri and Venna. Famous Lingmala Waterfall is also very near to this hill station on the Venna river. Along with all these Mahabaleshwar Shiva Temple, Kshetra Mahabaleshwar and Strawberry gardens are also famous places to see in Mahabaleshwar.

Surrounding Region

From Kate’s point one can see the breathtaking views of the huge Krishna River valley. The Dhom Dam is also located on this river. Just below Arthur’s seat, there is a place called Window. Trekkers can make extremely adventurous trek from here. Mahabaleshwar hill station is also famous for the Strawberries, mulberries and raspberries. In addition to this local people sell honey, carrots and radish in huge quantities.

How To Reach: Tourist as well as ST buses regularly ply to Mahabaleshwar from all major cities in Maharashtra. It is well connected by roads to all major cities in Maharashtra.  like Pune (113 kms), Kolhapur (179 kms) and Mumbai (220kms

  • Nearest Railway Station: Wathar Station(60 kms) is the nearest railhead to Mahabaleshwar hill station. However, Pune railway station (120 kms)  is more convenient. 
  • Nearest Airport: Pune Airport. Taxies as well as Radio cabs are easily available from Airport to Hill Station.
