SINHAGAD FORT TREK INFORMATION:
The Sinhagad fort trek is indeed a popular trek spot near Pune city. This fort is located on a mountain 35 kms south-west of Pune. Sinhagad was formerly known as Kondana Fort. This fort comes under the category of historical forts in Maharashtra. Almost everyone in Maharashtra knows the story of Tanaji Malusare who saved the precious life of the Shivaji Maharaj in order to capture Sinhagad-Kondana Fort. Tanaji fought very bravely like a lion in that battle in order to save his king- The Great Shivaji Maharaj. So the name of the fort was changed from Kondana to Sinhagad.
The Sinhagad fort is located at an elevation of about 1350 metres above mean sea level. It is very famous among trekkers & adventure lovers. In the rainy season, a huge number of enthusiastic people perform trek on this fort. There are few paths to the Sinhagad fort trek. The route that goes via Katraj to Sinhagad is a popular & preferred route by many trekkers. Lush green views of the surrounding region in the monsoon months are simply amazing. You can find yourself amidst the thick clouds if you are lucky!
At the entrance of the fort, you will find Kalyan Darwaja. As you move forward, there is fresh drinking water reservoir known As-Dev Tank, it contains clean and refreshing drinking water. On the west side of the fort, there is the Donagiri Cliff, which is popularly known as Tanaji Kada. While doing Sinhagad fort trek, you will come across places like The Amriteshwar Temple, Kalavanti bastion, The Zunjar Bastion, Chhatrapati Rajaram Memorial & The Tanaji Memorial which are worth seeing. Today, the fort is in the condition of ruins. You can see the remains of the palace & other buildings which were on the fort.
The fort has sharp slopes & the fortifications were constructed only at few important places. You can get magnificent views of the mountain range & Pune city from the top of the fort. There is a rest house on the fort which is maintained by the government. If you went from Pune, you pass The Khadakvasla dam before Panshet junction. Go towards Donje village and then take Sinhagad fort trek. In a case of trekking, it is 13 kms trek.
Sinhagad fort trek can be achieved within one day from Pune. The fort can be spotted from Pune because of the TV towers on the top of the fort. There are also bungalows of Lokmanya Tilak and G.D. Madgulkarm at the top of the fort. Nowadays, Sinhagad Fort is used by National Defence Academy for training purpose.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Mid-June to October is an ideal time for trekking at Sinhagad Fort. However, one can visit this fort at any time of the year. Avoid giving visit from March to May as temperature goes high in this season.
TRANSPORT: Pune is nicely connected by road, rail & air to all major cities. You can catch PMT or ST buses available from Swargate, Shaniwar Wada or other spots in Pune. Any bus going to Aatkarwadi or Kondhanpur will take you to the Sinhagad Fort.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Sinhagad fort trek has a medium level of difficulty. First timers can also do trekking on this fort.
EATING STUFF: Take your own food and sufficient water with you while doing Sinhagad Fort Trek. There are no good hotel or food facilities at the fort. But there are some small stalls which offer mouth-watering food like Kanda Bhaji, Pithala-Bhakari, Dahi, Tea & other eating stuff but they do not remain open all the time so don’t rely on them.
ACCOMMODATION: If you are travelling from other cities than Pune then you can take an overnight stay in Pune. Many Budget & Deluxe hotels are available in Pune. Some cottages are also available near Sinhagad.
